Why Portugal Should be at the Top of Your Travel List

Over the past few years you may have seen a rise in friends and family heading to Portugal (and with good reason). Thanks to many airlines slashing ticket prices to help encourage tourism, more travelers than ever have had an opportunity to explore this beautiful country. Flight prices have continued to stay low which is why Portugal should be at the top of your travel list. Learn a little bit more about some of my favorite destinations within Portugal below!

Lisbon
Lisbon is an obvious choice for a must see destination when traveling to Portugal. Many large cities fly directly in Lisbon as well which is also a great plus when planning travel. The great thing about Lisbon, and Portugal in general, is that the food is amazing but it is also inexpensive. Make sure to take advantage of the fresh seafood and Portuguese wine - try the vinho verde!

There are also a number of day trips that you can take from Lisbon that should be taken advantage of! Sintra and the Pena Palace are worth the full day adventure to see this yellow and red palace on top of a hill and explore this adorable town. 

Lagos and the Algarve 
An easy drive and just a few short hours from Lisbon is Lagos and the Algarve region. I cannot say enough amazing things about Lagos and the wonderful beaches speak for themselves. There are plenty of activities available in addition to the beach, such as exploring the Benagil Caves, as well as a town bustling with local shops and picturesque streets. 

Porto and the Douro Valley
If you have time to visit Porto and the Douro Valley wine region in addition to the city and the beach do it! The Douro Valley isn’t far from Porto and by visiting you have the opportunity to try port wine right where it is harvested. The views in this region are unlike anywhere else in Portugal which is why it is a great compliment to the other locations mentioned as well.

Portugal really has it all! Great culture, amazing food and a balanced mix of cities, beaches and little towns to get lost in.
